Most people view any food that comes in a bright colored package as “bad.”

But Larabar was the opposite–it was a bar made of simple, real ingredients like dates and almonds. It represented what packaged food could be. And that’s what we decided to talk about in our spot.

I rewrote “Little Boxes,” a song that provided social commentary on the 1950’s suburban boom to provide some commentary on the food industry. I sang it to our CCO. Then sang it to the General Mills folks. Then, thankfully, we brought in the band Lucius to rerecord it. The spot launched during the Grammy’s tapping into people’s music state of mind and immediately received traction on Twitter.
